December: 1st Sunday Lesson

Dear sisters,
This month's first Sunday lesson comes from the April 2010 general conference. Sister Cheryl C. Lant the former general Primary president gave a talk titled "That Our Children May See the Face of the Savior". In it she reminds us "it is our sacred responsibility as parents and leaders of this rising generation of children to bring them to the Savior so that they might see His face and the face of our Father in Heaven as well. As we do so, we also bring ourselves".
She gives us three suggestions on how to do so. First, love the Lord with all our hearts and love our children. Second, become a worthy example to them by continually seeking the Lord and striving to live the gospel. And third, teach our children the gospel and how to live it's teachings.
Sister Lant says all three of these are a process. Sisters, I know as we do this and strive to live the Gospel principles we fill our homes with joy, peace, and love. A place where the Spirit can reside and help us to teach our children His Gospel and how to live and love the commandments.
Doctrine and Covenants 93:1 says, "Verily, thus saith the Lord: It shall come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am”. I testify to you, as we seek to see His face by coming unto Him, we will truly see Him.
I leave you with one last thought I found to be a profound statement that will stay with me through my life. Sister Lant asks that we ask ourselves, "What do my children see when they look at my face? Do they see the image of the Savior in my countenance because of how I live my life?". In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Much love to all of you this month and always, Holly Simpson
